The first thing to do before upgrading the hard drive would be to back up all your files. Because the drive will be formatted all files will be lost.

The next step is to open up your computer and locate your existing hard drive. At the switch at the back of the hard drive change the status from “master” to “slave”. This will tell your computer that this hard drive is secondary.

Before installing your new drive make sure the switch at the back is set to “master”. Then its simply a matter of plugging in the IDE cables to the back of the drives and your all set.

The new drive will need to be formatted before it can be used. Formatting the existing drive is optional, but should only be done if all data is backed up.
